Peter is a hot, sunny city. A little about cognitive distortions (05.09.2021)

I was there once, in the summer of 2004. Hot, intense sunny days and white nights, no sleep. We were hanging out with Alex Exler's club, it was fun and a bit tiring, plus I was pregnant.

Since then, when I hear the word St. Petersburg, I remember the heat, the bottomless blue sky and the white nights, and this is my experience.

This is how some cognitive distortions work - systemic errors in thinking:

Confirmation bias" bias ). Let's say I start looking for information about how it's sunny and hot in St. Petersburg, I repost it everywhere and demonstrate that I'm right. At the same time, I discredit in every way those who disagree and their sources.

- "Generalization of particular cases" (or generalization of particular cases, overgeneralization ). It was sunny and hot in St. Petersburg in the summer of 2004, which means it was like that in all subsequent summers.

- « Illusion "(the illusion of control). I am a very valuable and special person, so the weather is the way I need it.

- "The Phenomenon of a Just World" ( Just-world hypothesis ). Everyone gets what they deserve, because the world is fair. I am a very good person, so the weather in St. Petersburg is beautiful by the time I arrive.

There are actually quite a lot of them...

I would be glad if you share in the comments what distortions you encounter most often.

P.S. And a warm, sun-drenched city is Rome, and Istanbul, of course. But sometimes St. Petersburg too
